How to dictate on your computer
- Download Keypop for Windows, Mac or Linux, and create your free account with your email. The AI downloads once, about 4 GB.
- Put your cursor where you want to write: an email, a document, a Teams message.
- Press Alt + M (⌥ + M on Mac) and speak. Dictation stops when you go quiet, or when you release the key if you hold it.
- Enter inserts the text. Or Tab, to turn it into an email, a clean list, a rephrased or translated version.
More than dictation
Raw dictation writes what you say, word for word. Keypop turns it into text that’s ready to send:
Punctuation and capitals
Keypop formats what you say: periods, commas, capitals, numbers as digits (“17 November at 10:30am”, “248,300 euros”).
Dictation that becomes an email
Say “tell Paul the meeting is moved to Thursday”: Tab, and Keypop writes the email to Paul, with a proper greeting and sign-off.
A list, from what you listed
“First the budget, then the quotes, then the room”: Keypop offers to turn it into a clean list.
Your names spelled right
Your company, your products, your clients: Keypop learns them and spells them right.

- Keypop on Mac needs Apple silicon (M1 or later); on a PC, at least 8 GB of memory.
- Wispr Flow always transcribes in the cloud, as its privacy page says (“Transcription always happens in the cloud”). The number of free words per week is no longer shown on its pricing page.
- Superwhisper dictates for free with no limit using on-device models; AI formatting, cloud models and file transcription are Pro-only ($8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, $249.99 lifetime).
- Dragon Professional (Microsoft, formerly Nuance) doesn’t publish its price: about $700 at US resellers, with no Mac version.
- Windows voice typing uses online speech recognition: it doesn’t work without internet. It does understand spoken punctuation (“comma”, “period”).
- macOS Dictation can process your voice on the Mac, depending on the language and the Mac model (Settings → Keyboard tells you).
- Google Docs voice typing only works in Docs and Slides; the browser does the recognition (at Google for Chrome).
- Handy is free software that also dictates on your computer, offline, on all three systems. It pastes raw text; on Linux, Wayland needs extra tools.
In short: Keypop and Handy are the only ones to dictate for free, offline, on Windows, Mac and Linux. Keypop adds formatting, dictation that becomes an email or a list, and your names spelled right.

What Keypop doesn’t do yet
- In a noisy open-plan office, on-device dictation can pick up voices around you. A headset fixes most of it; the Pro plan dictates in the cloud, in France, and ignores background voices better.
- Saying “comma” or “open quote” doesn’t work yet: Keypop punctuates on its own, from your voice.
- The first launch needs internet: to create your account and download the AI (about 4 GB, once).
- On Mac, you need Apple silicon (M1 or later). On a PC, allow at least 8 GB of memory; with 16 GB, it’s faster.
